On June 2, 2025, Schara v. Ascension Health will become the first hospital medical battery case to reach a jury since 1973. 

It will also be the first wrongful death trial involving a hospital C*vid casualty listed on a death certificate.  

Yes, it’s THAT historic.
 

It centers on the death of 19-year-old Grace Schara, a young woman with Down syndrome who played violin, drove a car, and loved her family. 

On October 13, 2021, Grace died inside Ascension St. Elizabeth Hospital after receiving a lethal combination of Precedex, Lorazepam, and Morphine, which mirrors end-of-life euthanasia protocols—not C*vid treatment. 

These drugs were all administered within a 29-minute window following the placement of an allegedly illegal Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) order on her chart. 

Her parents, Cindy and Scott Schara, say their legal medical power of attorney was ignored. After being escorted out by armed guards, they were forced to watch on FaceTime as their daughter’s oxygen levels crashed and the hospital staff refused to intervene.

The lawsuit challenges not only individual medical providers but also Ascension Health, the largest Catholic hospital system in the U.S., and seeks a declaratory judgment on whether their actions constitute criminal conduct under state law.

This is the first and only case from the entire C*vid era that has pierced through PREP Act civil immunity and advanced to trial despite immense legal barriers. 

This trial enables us to have a national conversation that FINALLY addresses: 
 

• Who gave hospitals the right to override medical power of attorney? 
• Why were ethical staff removed and replaced with compliant outsiders? 
• How did protocols designed to kill become standardized practice? 
• And why are the architects of these systems still unaccountable? 
   

Grace’s death exposes a pattern of abuse that went on behind closed doors within hospitals across the U.S that had more C*vid hospital deaths than any other country in the world.   

This is not just about one girl—it’s about a system that kills tens of thousands and gets paid to do it. What’s on trial isn’t just one hospital or one tragic death. It’s the entire paradigm that makes such horrors possible—where human beings became billable items.
